&Polymyositis=Dermatomyositis (DM) and polymyositis (PM) are classified as idiopathic inflammatory myopathies. They are characterized by proximal bilateral symmetric muscle weakness of the upper and lower extremities, without pain. In addition, the rash of DM includes Gottron's papules over the MCPs and PIPs, heliotrope rash around the eyes, and a ÒshawlÓ rash over the posterior neck and shoulders. There is an increased risk of malignancy in patients with DM and to a lesser extent PM.
